Let's comic!

En clase hicimos un proyecto en el que luego de leer la obra "El centro forward murió al amanecer" decidimos convertir la misma en un comic. Para esto hicimos bocetos primero en lápiz negro, luego en tinta china, y finalmente sacamos fotos y las editamos en un programa llamada Comic Life.

El Darwinismo en Soy Leyenda

"La gente que intenta de empeorar este mundo no para. ¿Por qué yo lo haría?" dice Robert Neville en la película Soy Leyenda, dirigida por Francis Lawrence, donde podemos identificar la misma cita como el tema principal de la película.En el film podemos encontrar a Will Smith (Hombres de negro) luchando por sobrevivir en la ciudad de Nueva York como el único humano restante en esta nueva sociedad poblada por monstruos vampirescos. Día a día se encuentra con la razón que lo mantiene cuerdo y con esperanza: encontrar la cura para la nueva infección que convierte a todos en vampiros.

El filme Soy Leyenda se basa en la historia de Richard Matheson publicada en 1954. Sin embargo la película (2007) no fue el primer intento de adaptación. En los años ‘70 el derecho del libro fue comprado por Warner Bros, y en 1971 se realizó la película llamada “El hombre omega” protagonizada por Charlton Heston.

En mi opinión la película se puede considerar buena aunque sea una modificación notable de la novela original. Podemos ver como el libro fue adaptado al presente analizando ciertos aspectos que aparecen en la película. “Esta es la zona cero. Este es mi lugar. Yo puedo arreglarlo, yo puedo arreglar esto” dice Neville al hablar con su mujer, hablando de la zona cero como el punto del incidente del 11 de Septiembre de 2001. Además él dice que puede arreglarlo ya que él es un militar(coronel) y como siempre, el gobierno de E.E.U.U plantea que puede resolver todo. En cambio en el libro, Robert Neville era un hombre normal quien ya no cuidaba de sí mismo ya que se encontraba sólo y lo único que lo mantenía vivo era su instinto de supervivencia, cuando claramente en la película él entrenaba todos los días, siempre alerta a los posibles ataques zombi-vampirezcos, lo que identifica a estas acciones como la supervivencia del más apto. Además podemos entender que la sociedad cambió mucho desde el año de publicación del libro, hasta la película, por lo tanto podemos justificar éstas características que presenta la película que la vuelven moderna como la apariencia zombie de los vampiros, el hecho de que él esté en forma y musculoso y el hecho de que él no sólo sea militar, sino que también sea científico.

Además, el objetivo de Robert en la novela no es el mismo que en la película, salvar el mundo, sino que es resistirse a la diferencia planteada entre los seres que comparten el mundo. Por lo tanto, él debe luchar contra la nueva especie que se ubica en su ciudad.

Para concluir podemos decir que tanto en el libro como en la película Robert Neville es preso del mundo en el que vive, en la película no tiene elección más que sobrevivir, y en el libro lo mantiene vivo y prisionero su instinto de supervivencia.

Letter to Elena

Dear Elena,

                 Hi! I was very happy when I got your letter. How're you doing? it's been a long time since we last saw each other.

 I'd love my college since the first day I came here, and I think you'll also like it. Here's full of nice people who can help you improve your english and also visit all the places you need to.
 As soon as I got here I'd met a new friend, if you are as lucky as I was, you'll make a lot of friends very soon and they'll be with you every time you need them, if not you can be with us.
 In free time, boys make football teams and play a tournament that last all the year. And girls have differents options of sports as volley, soccer and my favourite, hockey. And that's the sport that I play, so I hope you can join me. Also, people who don't like sports can relax by doing yoga or watching TV in the campus loby.
 I love my english teacher, she's such a good person and she really knows how to reach each person as the way they need. This teacher has been giving classes since she was eighteen, and she has studied at the best college of the country. I think you'll like her and the school aswell.

The Signalman

This story is called the Signalman.
He saw ghosts trying to tell him something.
Everything he sees he told ir t the narrator.

Shouting, was the first appearance.
Instantly,an accident happened.
Gently waving his arms,was the second appearance.
Near that moment, a woman died.
Another and the last one, appeared.
Later on, obviously someone died. The signalman.
Many times, he saw the ghosts.
Almost nobody believed the signalman-
Nothing could he do to save his life.

How does it make you feel?

This video called How does it make you feel it´s hard to understand the first time you watch it and also the 32445 time you watch it. The lyrics help a lot to understand not everything but a little bit more at least. How does it makes me feel? Strange, I had a feeling of beeing need like if everybody needs another one or another thing to feel complete. Incomplete, it´s like if someone feels complete with the woman, as if she is everything "the narrator" needs but she isn´t everything or the body of the woman would be complete. I understood almost everything when I read the last phrase: "So, how does it make you feel? Well, I really think you should quit smoking." This phrase explains why there is smoke everywhere, and why the woman was cutted in pieces, or combinated with a fish. It makes me feel like if "the narrator" was high, and this was the only way he could feel something, and when he´s asked How does it make you feel? It refers to the effects that the drugs where causing on him. Also when the light bulbs are exploiting I had the feeling that the drugs in his/her body are causing an important damage that doesn´t let him think anymore, he feels warm because of the lit cigarret, he is "spacing out" because when you are high it´s like you are dispersed thinking in nonesense things, and the things colour red that appear all the time mean also a lit cigarret. How does it make me feel? like never smoking.

The Boy from: "Secrets"...

He was a good kid, but he had a bad behaviour, he didn´t do bad things on purpose, but it was part of his personality. He was great aunt Mary´s nephew and also one of the main characters of the story “Secrets”.
He had an excellent relationship with his great aunt. They did things together, they read books, they played until the day he broke the rules. Why? Because when he was a child, he liked to collect stamps and his great aunt had many, stuck on letters, at that moment his curiosity backfired. He touched and read the letters he wasn't supposed to read, and his great aunt caught him.
“You are dirt... and always will be dirt”,  those were the words his great aunt told him when she discovered what he did. Those words left him a mark, and since that he always felt guilty for his act. He even felt more guilty when his great aunt died.He wanted to know if Mary said something about him before dying.
“Don't be so inquisitive” his great aunt said. This phrase perfectly represents the kid, who was so inquisitive and suspicious that he finally ended doing something he regretted all his life. The kid can be compared with a mole because the mole is always living underground and doesn’t let anybody to see him, like he when he was reading the letters.

How to tell fortunes...

 To say how to tell fortunes, I based on a story we read at school, the name of this story  is "An Astrologer´s day".

The fortunes tellers have to have special cualities, such as:

• Ask specific things that everyone pass throw, for example problems with marriage, money and tanges of human ties. 
• Have a mysterious physical appearance as to attract people attention.
• Be a compelling person.
• Loosely speaking, using general statements.
